Where are you from and what is your background?
The Annapolis Valley has been my home for over 25 years. It’s where I work, live and engage with my community. I am a former municipal clerk and communications manager for the Town of Wolfville. And for the past eight years, I have worked at Acadia University, where I assist faculty, staff, and students from the Dean of Arts Office. I am also an online content creator for our local food and beverage industry here in Kings County.
Why have you chosen to run for office?
I am running so that your voice is represented at the council table. As your councillor candidate in District 9, my goal is to listen and to work together to address the concerns of our residents. I have had the privilege of working in local government, where I was on the front line of receiving public feedback to council decisions - so I know how those decisions are felt in the community. And I know the importance of listening and considering different perspectives.
What strengths would you bring to Council if elected?
I offer compassion, honesty, integrity, and a willingness to consider different perspectives. I have direct experience in the municipal budgeting process, in policy development, in community development, and in working collaboratively with our municipal partners here in Kings County.
I have an appreciation for our valley’s agricultural sector and the entrepreneurial drive that is necessary for our local farmers. With a degree in Commerce, I recognize the importance of cultivating business right here at home. In fact, I even have experience as a small fruit grower, along with my husband, Scott.
What do you feel are key issues in this election and how would you address them?
There are many concerns facing the residents of District 9. However, the common concern that I am hearing at the door, is that our residents want their perspectives to be considered when decisions are made at the council table. Discussion and healthy debate is key. My role as councillor will be to provide a regular communication on issues that could impact our neighbourhoods.
What is one message you would like to send to voters?
Let’s start a discussion on how we can Build Community Together for District 9 and for all of Kings County.
