Where are you from and what is your background?
I have lived in Kings County since 1972, coming here as the daughter of a military member. I have worked in the service industry, retail sector and retired after 26 years as an office manager for a family owned construction based company.
Why have you chosen to run for office?
I was elected to the Kingston Village Commission in 2009, serving my last three years there as chair. I resigned in 2016 to run for Municipal Council when encouraged by members of my community. I have now served District 4 for 8 years as an engaged and responsive Councillor. I have chosen to run for Mayor because I am confident in my knowledge and abilities.
What strengths would you bring to Council if elected?
I will bring a cool head, a calm voice and a belief that collaboration is the only way to ensure the best outcome for Kings County. I will ensure that in Council all voices are important and need to be heard.
What do you feel are key issues in this election and how would you address them?
Kings County is growing in ways that will bring more people, businesses and industry. We must continue to update, and perhaps change, our Municipal Planning Strategy/Land Use By-laws to accommodate growth in ways that benefit the County as a whole while offering the same protection for your best agricultural land. We must continue our forward momentum, always with a vision of a brighter future for all residents. I am deeply invested in Kings County being a "Community of Communities, where all people belong."
What is one message you would like to send to voters?
I believe that Kings County is a great place to live. Our new Council, with me as your Mayor, will strive to make it the BEST place to live, work and thrive. We must embrace positive change, forward momentum and include every single person in that vision. We leave no one behind!
