Where are you from and what is your background?
My name is Shannon Parker. I grew up in Kings County and currently reside in Aylesford. I graduated from West Kings District High School and attended Acadia University. For the past 26 years, I have been employed at Michelin, where I have undertaken a variety of roles, including Employee Representative, Recruiter, and Quality Technician. I am also a long-standing member of the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department, where I currently serve as Treasurer. Previously, I was a Commissioner for the Village of Aylesford, from which I stepped down to pursue this election. Additionally, I have coached youth and high school sports, such as Valley Wild Female Hockey and Horton Hockey.
Why have you chosen to run for office?
I am running for office because I believe that local government is the cornerstone of our community, and I am committed to making a positive impact. My goal is to foster open and honest communication and to represent your interests effectively. My experience as a Commissioner for Aylesford has demonstrated the impact I can make, and I am eager to extend these influences at the county level.
What strengths would you bring to Council if elected?
I bring a proactive approach to leadership, unafraid to voice unpopular opinions or ask challenging questions. My skills in Project Management and Budgeting will be valuable assets to the council and the county.
What do you feel are key issues in this election and how would you address them?
- Enhancing RCMP Presence in the County: I propose establishing an open forum to discuss issues and improve community engagement.
- Improving Road and Transportation Infrastructure: This includes exploring the use of Electric Vehicles and Renewable Energy sources and advocating for increased Provincial Funding to upgrade and maintain J-Class Roads.
- Evaluating the Deed Transfer Tax: While I am against implementing this tax without a clear plan for its revenue, I recognize the need to carefully consider its potential impact on sustainable growth and development.
What is one message you would like to send to voters?
My message to voters is simple: Your vote matters! Elections are a crucial opportunity to drive change, and I am dedicated to making decisions that will guide our county towards a prosperous future.
