Civic Addressing

The Municipality became involved with civic addressing when the Province announced that it would implement an enhanced 911 Emergency Response System in the mid- 1990's. All structures within each Municipality throughout Nova Scotia were assigned a civic number.

The addressing system, now in place, is updated and maintained by our in-house GIS staff. New numbers are assigned, maps are updated, and the necessary agencies/departments are advised of all new numbers and/or updates.

A civic address is necessary for:

  • 911 Emergency Response
  • Mail Delivery
  • Service Delivery
  • Utility Hook-ups

New civic numbers are assigned during the building permit application process. Once a permit is issued, the civic number is assigned. Building permits are obtained at Community Development Services, Municipal Complex, 181 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. Coldbrook. To inquire about the permit process, contact the Municipality at 902-690-6152.
