SEWER & WATER UTILITY
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Water & Wastewater Operations, the Department operates and maintains sixteen sewage collection systems comprised of eight waste water treatment plants. Of the eight waste water treatment plants, six are aerated lagoons, one is an activated sludge process, and one a sequential batch reactor process. There is also a laboratory at the Regional sewage treatment plant and a septage treatment facility at the Waterville sewage treatment plant. There are 68 pumping stations located throughout the County from Greenwood to Hants Border. The Municipality is in the process of amending Bylaw 98 - Wastewater. Council gave first reading to proposed amendments to Bylaw 98 Wastewater Bylaw on June 7, 2016 and is now open for public comment.
Public Works operates and maintains the Greenwood Water Utility which provides a potable water supply to the village of Greenwood as well as the Sandy Court area of Aylesford. Hydrants are also provided for fire protection in the Greenwood Water Utility. All water connections are metered and billed quarterly according to actual consumption. Water is obtained from two high quality ground water wells in the area. There are two 330,000 gallon above ground tank reservoirs, a 50,000 gallon below ground tank, and a chlorine treatment system included in the water utility.
