Municipal Elections

Municipal Elections are held every four years in Nova Scotia and 2024 was an election year. Residents of the Municipality of the County of Kings voted for a Mayor and the Councillor in their District in October 2024.

2024 Unofficial Election Results

Municipal Council is elected by the residents of the Municipality to make decisions about municipal services, by-laws, policies, and programs. These have a direct impact on people who live and work in the Municipality, and those who have businesses here. The cost for providing services is covered by the income from property taxes. Council approves the budget every year and sets the property tax rates.

The Municipality provides many programs and services, either directly or through third parties, including:
  • Recreation
  • Sewer and Water
  • Waste Collection
  • Community Grants
  • Some Roads & Sidewalks
  • Public Transportation
  • Land Use Planning
  • Building & Development Services
  • Animal Control
  • Fire & Emergency Services

That’s not all! Council develops a Strategic Plan to pinpoint Key Strategic Priorities for the coming years. These include projects in the areas of accessibility, diversity, active transportation, green energy, economic development, high speed internet, and more.
