Emily Lutz is serving her third term as District 7 Councillor in Kings County. She served the first eight years of her municipal career as both Councillor and Deputy Mayor from 2016-2024, and was president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities in 2020/2021. Emily is from Rockland where she lives on her family’s apple, peach, and pear farm with her husband and three children. Emily has a degree in Political Science and Great Books from St. Thomas University in Fredericton (2011) and a Master of Arts in Social and Political Thought from Acadia University (2020). Between her two degrees Emily completed the Nova Scotia Municipal Internship program in Cumberland County where she learned the roles of municipal governance and administration. It was here she became inspired about the potential of local government to shape community and positively impact people’s lives.

Emily’s volunteer roles have been varied and range from President of the Berwick and District Nursery School to the Chair of Grand View Manor. Emily currently sits on the School Advisory Council for Berwick and District School and is an active volunteer with Valley Bulldogs Minor Football. As a Councillor she has been active with the Fire Services Advisory Committee, Audit and Finance Committee, Planning Advisory Committee, Landscape of Grand Pré UNESCO World Heritage Site, Diversity Kings County, New Minas Secondary Plan Planning Committee, Annapolis Valley Regional Library Board, Annapolis Valley Trails Coalition, Lake Monitoring Committee, among others.

She is passionate about the sustainability of rural community spaces, libraries, trails, active transportation and pedestrian safety, climate change and biodiversity, environmental stewardship, and increasing recreation opportunities for people of all ages in Kings County. She believes strongly in the vision that Kings County is a community of communities where all people belong and supports all initiatives to ensure every resident of Kings County feels welcome, safe, and at home in our County.
