THE NEW REALITIES

Today, those new innovations in farming (that continue apace) have resulted in efficiencies,
plant breeders rights (the ‘SweeTango’ and the ‘Honey Crisp’ apples are examples),
specialization, common equipment purchases and sharing, automation, application of
geomatics, increased crop yields, 'Buy Local' campaigns, opening of international markets,
discovery that our microclimate supports vineyards on previously unused acreage (because
of severe slopes, etc.), agri-tourism, automated livestock barns and a number of other
research and marketing innovations. These advances have all transformed the industry.

            CLIMATE EMERGENCY AND FOOD SECURITY

The urgency of conditions created, locally and around the world, by the climate crisis has
changed public perception around issues such as food security and public health and safety.

One might speculate that the next great migrations will be necessitated by the world’s
changing climate conditions. The fortunate, relatively unaffected, nations will add a new
category to ‘economic immigrants’ and ‘persecution/political refugees’ – that of ‘climate
            crisis refugees.’
