SCHEDULE
RESPONSIBILITIES OF
RESIDENTS LIVING IN
AGRICULTURAL AREAS
Rural residents must understand that the privilege of residing on one of the rural
lots brings with it the social obligation of absorbing, without complaint, the reality of
living in a community that gives priority to the conduct of agricultural practices.
Off-shoots of these include:
Odours
Over-spraying caused by wind conditions
Night harvesting or cultivation
Flies
Dust
The sounds of animals, recorded predator sounds and propane guns use for fruit
crop protection
Recognition that farm-land is not public space. One mustn’t trespass.
Power outages while on unplowed roads, causing temporary severance from
comfort centres and utility amenities (heat, water, telephone, etc.)
Longer journeys to amenities/recreation
Late plowed roads
Farm equipment slowing traffic when being moved on the highway.
Produce trucks
The necessity/obligation to advise any future purchaser of your property that
they, too, shoulder this responsibility (and to consider whether it limits your sales
demographic).
If you are not prepared to accept these inconveniences, please reconsider becoming
a country resident. Live in one of our Growth Centres, or Towns and enjoy the beauty
around you.
